Fair Oaks Farms® Master Cheesemaker Bruce Workman’s Muenster took home first place honors at the 2018 American Cheese Society Judging and Competition held in Pittsburgh, PA on July 27th! Fair Oaks Farms’ Muenster has continually won honors at the competition since entering in 2005.

Fair Oaks Farms is well known for our award-winning artisan cheeses. We take pride in harvesting our delicious milk from our well-cared for dairy cows to provide nutritious and quality products to our customers. Our Muenster cheese just won “Best In Show” at the American Cheese Society this past August and we are proud to showcase this particular cheese at our CowtoberFest on October 11.
Muenster will play a big part in our witch tent that will serve as an interactive and fun themed cheese tasting tent for adults at CowtoberFest. Our staff has created a bewitching experience that is sure to tickle your tastebuds.
Muenster cheese is a delicious soft cheese with a very mild flavor, smooth texture & vibrant orange rind. It originated from the mountains between France and Germany where it was preserved and aged in monk’s cellars. Dating back to 1371, if not earlier, Muenster cheese was used to pay debts in the Volges mountains by men with cattle herds.
We know that with the cooling weather, warm and hearty foods is something that you look forward to in order to toast up your tummies and enjoy a relaxing evening. We’ve put together a heart-warming and kid friendly recipe that is sure to please event the pickiest of eaters. Following along with our 2014 CowtoberFest Theme: Calling All the Monsters; we refer to this recipe as;
Muensterous Mac & Cheese
16 ozs pasta of your choice
- 5 tbsps butter (divided)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 8 ozs Fair Oaks Farms muenster cheese (shredded)
- salt & pepper
- 1/4 cup saltine cracker crumbs
- Preheat the oven to 400˚ F. In a large pot of boiling water, cook the pasta according to the package directions just until 1-2 minutes shy of al dente.
Meanwhile, add the butter into a large mixing bowl. Warm the cream in a small saucepan or the microwave. Cover to keep warm.
Once the pasta is cooked, add to the bowl with the butter and toss to coat well. Stir in the warm cream and the Muenster until the cheese starts to melt. Mix in salt and pepper to taste.
Pour the mixture into a buttered 2-quart casserole dish. In a small bowl, melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter. Mix in the cracker crumbs. Toss with a fork to coat evenly with the butter. Sprinkle the bread crumb mixture evenly over the pasta in the baking dish.
**For added creaminess and extra nutritional benefits, add a couple spoonfuls of Fair Oaks Farms’ Greek Yogurt.
Bake until the sauce is bubbling and the topping turns golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.
- Serve immediately.
