Our Cowfé is the Cow-Finest!

If you are listening to your stomach growl or just out on the road and need to stretch your legs then there’s no better place on the long stretch of I65 between Indianapolis and Chicago than the Cowfé at Fair Oaks Farms.

Tucked into the cornfields of northwest Indiana, you will find a farm that is unlike any other of its kind.   The first business to occupy the campus of Fair Oaks Farms was the Cowfé, which was erected in 2003.

Originally the Cowfé was a place where people could grab a bite to eat and also learn about the different cheeses that we produce here fresh from the farm. Since then, it has evolved into its own unique experience that keeps people talking.

The Cowfé is now home to our Greek yogurt plant, ice cream and cheese production. You can watch the production through glass windows as you taste your Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream, bite into a melted and crispy grilled cheese sandwich or sip a hot cup of Starbucks coffee.

The Cowfé is normally open from 7:30a until 6:00p CST (currently open winter hours: 8a-5p CST) and offers breakfast, lunch and early dinner options.

If you’re looking to remember your experience here on the farm, the Cowfé is also home to the destinations souvenir shop, which has plenty of sweatshirt, t-shirt and other great souvenir options.

To top everything off and to satisfy your sweet tooth, the Cowfé became the home of our Farmstead Chocolates in 2015. Try a variety of different chews, nougats and candy bars that will melt on your taste buds.

New Year, New Building.

Here at the farm, we are constantly growing and bringing in not only different animal groups but also new experiences and services for our guests. Recently, we have added a new building to our destination that you may or may not have noticed.

Next to our Admissions Building (which was new as of 2016) is now a cute little building named the Feed Barn. Nope, it’s not another café or restaurant. The Feed Barn serves as a lunchroom and cafeteria for our groups such as students on field trips and/or larger pre-booked groups.  The building is equipped with educational resources on agriculture and sustainability.

The building began being built in late 2016 and is now open for pre-booked groups. The groups must be 20 people or more to enjoy this special building. It houses a small kitchen, large dining room, bathrooms, mother’s lounge and first aid center. Not only is it a great place for groups to eat lunch but if you are planning a larger meeting or event, the space is also available for rent.

The Feed Barn is brought to you by Cargill and Farm Credit.

The Feed Barn is now open to guests.

To pre-book your Adventure dial 219-394-2025 ext 322 and ask for Lisa.

The Adventure Has Officially Grown

With summer upon us, we are excited to announce that our newest Adventure is here! The WinField Crop Adventure at Fair Oaks Farms officially opens today, Monday June 20, 2016!

We are opening our doors to guests to get the first look. In this new installment you will Start Your Adventure by watching a short video on where farming is headed in the near future.  What can generations to come expect with modern technology and innovation?

You will get to move around the globe to get a better idea of how crops and the environment effect our daily lives with interactive maps. Check out where different crops come from! Then you will make your way underground through the roots system where you can learn about different types of soil, hear and see a virtual rainstorm, and see down into the roots of corn (after all, we are located right in the corn belt). As you make your way back towards the surface you will play interactive games where you will have a chance to become the farmer!

After a hard season in the fields, take a walk into town and see the fruits of your labor right there on the shelf at the local supermarket.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words so take some corny shots with our props, and make your mark at our newest selfie station! After some great smiles and laughs, see the advanced technology that farming is using today, and how the future of farming is growing with our future generations.
