Make a toast with a beer.

Beer Dinner at The Farmhouse Restaurant

Join us Thursday, April 26th at 6 PM for a beer dinner, hosted by The Farmhouse & St. John Malt Brothers! The menu is set with South American inspired cuisine and each dish is paired with brews from St. John Malt Brothers.

Bartenders will start the evening with a blackberry mojito, but then Chef Jorge will take the reigns for an amuse-bouche course of Leche de Tigre. Fish marinated in citrus, fried calamari, and a sweet potato mousse, make this a course you can’t skip out on. It’s the perfect entrance to an evening of unique tastes from plate to glass. The second course of the evening is a Quinoa and Octopus Salad served with a mixture of roasted corn and poblano pepper that rests on a bed of quinoa and topped with an aioli dressing. The third course is a modern twist on a classic, the Papa Rellena, a potato stuffed with Fair Oaks Farms’ filet mignon, with hard egg and a bell pepper crema. Next up is Arroz con Pollo, a dish full of comforting chicken, beer braised rice, cilantro, English peas, and carrots. The last entree for the night is an extravagant Jales de Mariscos with fried seafood, yucca, tartar sauce, aji aioli, and salsa criolla. To finish the evening, a chocolate cake dessert will be served, topped with Coconut Whip, Chocolate Sauce, and Fair Oaks Farms Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. Each dish is paired with a delicious beer from St. John Malt Brothers.

The Beer Dinner is $55 per person and space is limited. Call The Farmhouse today to reserve your spot, this isn’t an evening you want to miss!

Bridal Show Preview

If you somehow haven’t heard, Fair Oaks Farms is hosting our Annual Spring Bridal Show on March 4th! Compete with giveaways, vendors, and a fashion show, it’s sure to be an afternoon to remember. We sat down with Megan Rogers, the coordinator of events at the Farmhouse Restaurant, to learn a bit more about the Bridal Show.

DSC_0074

How many years has the bridal show been running?
Megan: This is our 3rd Spring Bridal Show. I started this show when I began working here.

What can guests expect from the bridal show?
Megan: We are anticipating at least 125 brides with approximately 500 guests in attendance total.

What kind of vendors/businesses will be present?
Megan: We have a variety of vendors that could be useful to brides. From photographers to DJs, to florists, we even have a realtor if couples are looking to purchase their first home together!

What is the schedule for the day?
Megan: The show begins at 1 PM CST, and we will have a fashion show throughout the day, presented by Elegance Wedding and Evening Wear, that will spotlight wedding dresses and tuxes. We will also have three different raffle drawings throughout the day. We are expecting some pretty fabulous prizes!

What kind of giveaways will take place? How can guests sign up for them/participate?
Megan: Each bride and groom will receive a ticket upon arrival. They will be able to pick the time slot they would like to enter in for the raffle. There will be a lot of gift cards from vendors, and the Farmhouse is giving away a $1000 grand prize gift card!

FH_banquet3

Is the event space for the bridal show available for weddings and receptions?
Megan: Yes! We are excited to be booking for 2018, 2019, and 2020 at this point. We still have multiple dates available at this time. We can accommodate up to 200 guests in our beautiful ballroom, and beginning in the spring of 2019 we hope to have our hotel available to our guests as well!

How can guests inquire about booking the ballrooms for a wedding or reception?
Megan: They can set up a private tour or visit us at our booth at the show. Just email meganrogers@fofarms.com for more information. We will have complimentary discounts and items for booking your wedding the day of our show. Please stop by our booth for more details!

In past years, what has been the most popular/fun part of the bridal show?
Megan: Personally, it would be seeing the excitement all of these brides have for one of the most special days of their life. They are so excited, and it is an honor to help them plan their special day! For the show itself, our guests love the fashion show and all of the fun giveaways and such.

Can guests still register for the bridal show?
Megan: We do not have a limit on the number of brides that we are taking. We want all that we can get. We will be accepting walk-ins as well. Even if they do not pre-register, they are more than welcome to join! The more, the merrier.

Look Out, 2018!

Can you believe 2017 is nearly over?! In just a few short days it will be 2018! Another year on the farm behind us, but we’re always looking towards the future! 2017 brought us a lot of fun events, below we’ve detailed our top four, so you have plenty to look forward to in 2018!

Fair in the Air

Fair in the Air is our annual kite celebration. If you’ve ever visited us for Fair in the Air, you’ve enjoyed competition kite teams flying choreographed or improvised routines to popular songs. It’s like synchronized swimming – but with kites! Out in our events field we host show kites, which are giant kites sometimes as big as or larger than a school bus! These kites take fun and creative shapes such as an alien on a UFO, a large fish or cow, and even a giant gecko! We also have fun kite craft stations where you and your children can build a fun memento to remember the day! Last year we made homemade kites – who knows what’s in store for this year! And of course, like all of our events at Fair Oaks, vendors will line the grass to sell you everything you could need to start your spring!

Dog-a-Palooza

Our furriest paw-ty of the year is held in June, out by our newly built dog park! You can bring your pups for a day full of fun with contests such as Best Bark, Owner & Pup Look-a-Like, Best Costume, and Best Trick! A team of professional trick and dive dogs spend the afternoon entertaining with several shows, while your pup can run around Central Bark or take a break in one of the many cooling pools. Of course, there are crafts for all shapes and sizes – paints for your pups to leave their marks with and your kids to decorate a canvas or prize dog house. It’s all leading up to the 2K glow walk in the evening, with all the proceeds going to benefit the Shelter of the Year! You can visit the chosen shelter in our row of vendors, where they’ll be setting up shop with adoption applications and pets you could take home with you that day! Make sure you follow our social media pages to apply for Shelter of the Year.

Cowtoberfest

We take a few months off after Dog-a-Palooza, but we’re not sleeping! We’re planning the biggest and best fall festival northwest Indiana has to offer. Visitors drive from all over the Midwest to experience Cowtoberfest, the perfect fall festival for a family. Every year we bring in competitive, celebrity pumpkin carvers to treat us to a unique show of how they carve giant pumpkins into masterpieces! Across the field are weekend-long concerts from a variety of artists that play different genres such as pop, electronic, country, and acoustic covers! We take a break from the music only on Saturday, where we hold our annual dance contest for local high schools! Dance teams can compete for first, second, and third place prizes that come along with a cash award! You’ll also find fall crafts, a straw maze, corn bin, and the largest selection of vendors that we offer all year round. Keep an eye out on our social media pages to see when we’re accepting dance team applications and vendors!

Make Memories at Holiday Farm Frenzy

Holiday cheer is infectious and can create lasting memories for generations. People can recall looking at Christmas light displays, doing family activities, and spend time together, for their entire lifetime. We appreciate that the holidays are so important to our visitors and community members, and that’s why we created Holiday Farm Frenzy four years ago.

This year’s Holiday Farm Frenzy is built on those same values: family, holiday cheer, and memory-making. On December 16th, we’ll transform our campus into a winter wonderland fit for anyone’s fantasies. Admission is free to the event, but most activities will take place in the Adventures. Luckily, the Whole Adventure is discounted for this special day for only $15 per person! This price includes the Dairy, Pig, and Crop Adventure, admission to the vendors, and a wristband to go indoor ice skating! The first 100 children to buy admission will also receive a Holiday Farm Frenzy Santa hat.

Indoor ice skating will be in the FeedBarn, along with Christmas crafts and light displays. There’s no need to bring your own skates, as they will be provided. Santa Claus will be making a special appearance from noon to 3 pm so make sure you have your Christmas lists ready! There will also be a Christmas wagon ride to take you to the FeedBarn and Crop Adventure so you don’t have to walk in the cold! We’ll be packing our Crop Building with vendors, selling a variety of handmade gifts, personalized items, florals, clothing, and cosmetics. The Uptones will join the party in the Crop Adventure IMAX theater for a special performance at 10 am.

If you were lucky enough to get a reservation for Breakfast with Santa, you’ll have bacon and eggs with the guest of honor from 9 am to 11 am. The first 100 kids that registered also receive a commemorative mason jar. If you do not already have a reservation for Breakfast with Santa, please be advised that they are SOLD OUT.

Fair Oaks Farms operates 9 am to 3 pm on Saturday, December 16th, but Holiday Farm Frenzy does not begin until 10 am! The Cowfé will be operating with regular hours and service a special hot chocolate treat to guests! The Farmhouse Restaurant will also be open during regular hours, so stop by to get some warm soup or comfort food!

We hope you can all make it for Holiday Farm Frenzy, a truly unique opportunity to spend some time with your family and friends. For more information, please refer to our Facebook page.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Unmasking Domestic Violence

On October 28th, Fair Oaks Farms is happy to host the second annual 5K Walk/Run Masquerade in partnership with the North Central Indiana Rural Crisis Center. On this day, people will join together at our campus to fight against domestic violence and sexual assault. Funds gathered from registration for the walk will go to benefit the Crisis Center and the victims of domestic violence and sexual assault that they help.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. It began as a “Day of Unity,” that was first held in October 1981 by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The Day of Unity evolved into a week, but by 1987 October was named Domestic Violence Awareness Month. According to the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence, the original events were focused on three specific goals:

  • Mourning those who have died because of domestic violence
  • Celebrating those who have survived
  • Connecting those who work to end violence

The North Central Indiana Rural Crisis Center is continuing these goals, working to help and serve those directly affected by domestic violence. Their facility is always open, providing temporary shelter and services to victims and children of domestic violence and/or sexual assault. They offer education, advocacy, and community intervention services as well. Their slogan is simple; “Turning victims into survivors, helplessness into hope.” Fair Oaks Farms is happy to support them and give them a venue to raise funds for their essential efforts.

The Masquerade 5K will take place 9 am to 1 pm, CST. Participants are encouraged to wear masks and/or costumes, and children under 12 are free. You can find all the information for our event at fofarms.com/masquerade, but if you want to skip straight to registration you can find it here. Registration is $25 per person and includes a t-shirt.

Please join us in assisting important efforts in our community, lead by the North Central Indiana Rural Crisis Center.

If you’d like to read more about how Domestic Violence Awareness Month began or facts on domestic violence, go here.
